Lane 04 - 04:03

Two a.m. on the dashboard clock
City lights fade, block after block
Overhead lights sweep across my hands
Tires keep time as the road expands
Phone lights up; I leave it face down
Four lanes open at the edge of town
Feel my shoulders settle with the bass
Watch the skyline slowly slip away
For a while, let the next thing wait—
Lane zero four, let the city fade
Let the night stretch out a little more
Nothing left to prove, just an open road
Taking my time in lane zero four
Dashboard glow and the engine hum
One low note, and the day comes undone
Out of the tunnel, the bay comes into view
Window down, let the night come through
Ease off the gas, let the engine breathe
Nothing for a while that I need to be
Feel my shoulders settle with the bass
Watch the skyline slowly slip away
For a while, let the next thing wait—
Lane zero four, let the city fade
Let the night stretch out a little more
Nothing left to prove, just an open road
Taking my time in lane zero four
I could take the next turn home
But I like how the quiet feels
One more song before I go
Lane zero four, let the city fade
Let the night stretch out a little more
Nothing left to prove, just an open road
Taking my time in lane zero four.(A little more)
One more song
Then I'll go
(Lane zero four...)
(Keep it rolling...)
